Study: Text bans don’t really work

A study by the Highway Loss Data Institute released yesterday found that texting bans like the one Massachusetts implemented today do not reduce crashes from distracted driving.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood called the study misleading.

“Lives are at stake,” he said in a statement, “and all the reputable research we have says that tough laws, good enforcement and increased public awareness will help put a stop to the deadly epidemic of distracted driving on our roads.”
