Suffolk County police officers and County Executive Steve Levy are both denying a report that Police Commissioner Richard Dormer has been fired after he was accused of bungling the Long Island serial killer case.
“Richard Dormer is not leaving the department,” a police spokesperson told Metro yesterday.
A published report said Dormer was given one month to clean out his desk. Anonymous sources said Levy was furious Dormer released classified information during the course of the investigation into nine, possibly 10 dead bodies found on Long Island barrier beaches.
Dormer met with officials from Dowling College to discuss joining the school’s security staff, the school confirmed. But the new job would start after his term as commissioner expires on Dec. 31, said a Dowling spokeswoman.
Update on body search
Forensic results of the two teeth that were found on Tobay Beach last week are not yet available and are still undergoing analysis at the New York City medical examiner’s office. Nassau and Suffolk county cops have suspended ground and water searches for additional remains in the Gilgo Beach area. Both departments await results of high-tech aerial imaging photos that were taken by FBI Black Hawk helicopters, which will be delivered to police later this week.
