Over the weekend the T installed a hold light on the Mattapan line at Ashmont Station so those making the switch have ample time to catch the trolley that goes through Milton on its way to Mattapan.
According to a T spokesman, this hold light was installed to address comments from Red Line customers, who said they were just missing their connections to the Mattapan Trolley Line during their commute.
When an incoming Red Line train is on a certain track, it triggers a signal which illuminates the ‘hold’ sign.

Trolleys will see the lit-up logo and will wait until the passengers coming off the Red Line have made the transfer.
