The MBTA will move ahead with plans to build a safety training center under South Boston on the old Broadway Station platform.
The MBTA’s Emergency Training Center will replicate an “active transit environment,” complete with a mock platform and classrooms for first responder training.
The project comes with a $5.7 million price tag, but according to MBTA officials, it is completely eligible for reimbursement through the Department of Homeland Security’s Transit Security Grant Program.
The facility is slated to open in April 2013.
