The tag "Apeal and Ades" appears on the top of the historic Liberty Title & Trust building at the corner of North Broad and Arch Streets. The building, constructed in the early 1900s, was incorporated into the expansion of the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Sources say the two words belong to two different taggers.
It's not immediately clear how long the graffiti has graced the building, or how the taggers gained access.
The building, which was slated to be transformed into a hotel, was bought by Realen Properties in 2008.
Officials from the city's Anti-Graffiti Network were not immediately available for comment.
