Former Talking Heads frontman and one of the city’s most outspoken cycling enthusiasts David Byrne designed these nifty new bike racks up now outside the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
Byrne, who lives in Manhattan, often speaks about how he pedals around the city, and is a strong supporter of the Department of Transportation’s bike lanes. His bike racks spell out “pink crown” and “micro lip.”
What inspired him? “I wondered how I could make something that was modular, yet variable,”?said Byrne. “A design that wouldn’t always look the same and could vary depending on season and placement.”
This isn’t Byrne’s first stab at bike racks; he also designed racks for the DOT in 2008.
