According to Massachusetts State Police, the tractor trailer rollover and subsequent fire took place on President Avenue, which shut down traffic in both directions. Drivers were urged to seek alternate routes.
The tractor-trailer involved in the crash was transporting gasoline. Fire crews battled the flames throughout the morning, and the Fall River Fire Department dispatched a foam truck to the scene to assist. While nearby residents were given the option to leave their homes, there was no imminent danger from the fire 200 yards away.
The operator of the tanker was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The southbound lane reopened about 9:45 a.m. The northbound lane is expected to reopen soon as well.
