Teen arrested in shooting of Bronx girl, 15

Police have arrested five people in connection with the stray bullet shooting of a 15-year-old Bronx girl, including a 16-year-old boy they suspect is the one who pulled the trigger.

Alleged shooter Carvett Gentles was arrested yesterday and charged with attempted murder along with four other men ages 18, 19, 20 and 23. Gentles has no criminal record, police said.

Vada Vasquez remained in critical condition in a medically-induced coma at Lincoln Hospital yesterday.

Police believe Gentles rode up on a bicycle and fired, hitting Vasquez in the back of the head Monday as she walked home from Bronx Latin School in Morrisania. The intended target of the shooting, Tyrone Creighton, 19, was shot in the right leg and abdomen and is in stable condition.

Police are investigating whether the shooting was revenge for a jail fight at Rikers Island that Creighton’s brother took part in.
