A teenage girl was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer on the Upper East Side late Wednesday night.

Renee Thompson, 16, was fatally struck by the truck while crossing Third Avenue on the north side of 60th Street around 10:18 p.m., police said.

Thompson was leaving Dylan's Candy Bar, where she works as a cashier, when the accident occurred, according to the New York Daily News.

Cops said the 19-wheel tractor-trailer driven by an unidentified male, 35, was traveling west on East 60th Street when he turned onto Third Avenue, hitting Thompson, a resident of Morris Heights in the Bronx.

Emergency personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.

"She was the sweetest girl. She never had anything mean to say about anyone. She was quiet, until she got excited," Thompson's coworker, Matt Harvey, 31, told the Daily News.

The driver remained at the scene and was questioned by police but not arrested.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
