Test: Camden mother who beheaded toddler smoked 'wet'

Chevonne Thomas, 34, beheaded her two-year-old son in August and stuck his head in a freezer before killing herself.

Toxicology tests have confirmed that a Camden woman who decapitated her son and stuck his head in a freezer before killing herself had smoked marijuana laced with PCP.

The Camden County prosecutor's office revealed the results yesterday, which showed that Chevonne Thomas, 34, had the hallucinogen – known as "wet" on the street – in her system when she killed 2-year-old Zahree on Aug. 22. Thomas then stabbed herself after police responded to her 911 call.

The tests confirmed investigators' initial suspicion. It also raises questions about why Thomas, who had twice lost custody of Zahree, was deemed fit to care for her son earlier this year.

An investigation by the New Jersey Department of Children and Families is ongoing.
