Three generations murdered in UWS

A grandfather, father and son, were gunned down yesterday in apartment on Amsterdam Avenue near 84th Street.

Police were called at 1:43 p.m., after a woman in her 20s reportedly yelled to workers on a nearby rooftop that her family had been shot.

The 24-year-old son and his 52-year-old father, both named Carlos Rodriguez, were found in the bedroom, while the grandfather, identified in reports as Fernando Gonzalez, 87, was found in the bathroom, police said.

The suspected shooter, Hector Quinones, 44, was found dead in the backyard wearing rubber gloves.

He reportedly was recently released from jail and knew one of the victims from his time behind bars.

“We believe he fell when trying to leave the apartment through a back window,” a police official said.

Two women, the mother of Rodriguez, Jr. and her daughter, were in the apartment as the shooter entered, police said. The mother answered the door and was pistol-whipped before fleeing out the front door. The daughter fled out a window and climbed up a fire escape.

The police found a .380 caliber handgun gun in the apartment as well as a 12-inch long bloody knife.

“The motive is still unknown, but we’re investigating drugs as a possible motive,” a police official said. Police reportedly found a small amount of cocaine in the apartment and on Quinones’ body.
