As scores of people gathered for a barbecue Sunday night on a long, dead-end Mattapan street, a group of men opened gunfire -- causing chaos and bloodshed.
Police spent yesterday searching for the group of four men responsible for the shooting. No arrests and no further description were made as of press time.
Officers responded to Orlando Street about midnight for a report of gunshots.
When officers arrived, they found a 31-year-old woman shot in the abdomen. She was taken to Boston Medical Center, and her injuries were described as life-threatening.
Two men were also shot during the attack and transported themselves to the Carney Hospital in Dorchester, less than three miles away from the shooting scene.
Police said a 23-year-old man was shot in the right eye, and a 27-year-old man was shot in his left arm.
Two other people suffered minor injuries while leaving the scene and were treated and released from Carney Hospital, police said. It was unclear what caused those injuries.
Police did not identify any of the victims.
