Tit for tat on Black selection

ALBANY – A deal was reached that may soothe heated controversy over Hearst publishing magnate Cathie Black’s appointment as New York City schools chancellor, according to The Wall Street Journal. If the state education commissioner, David Steiner, grants Black — who has no education experience — the waiver she needs to become chancellor, she in turn will appoint a former math and social studies teacher with the city DOE to serve as her senior deputy chancellor. Many view this as a crucial step paving the way for Black’s appointment.
