Transit Police released surveillance video today of a man they say assaulted an MBTA driver in Chelsea, causing the bus to crash Sunday night.
The physical assault allegedly caused a multi-vehicle crashthat sent the driver to the hospital. Police did not release details of the attack until today, saying yesterday that the bus accident was under investigation.
About 9:28 p.m., a man boarded a bus near 948 Broadway St. before allegedly making contact with the driver while the bus was in motion, causing it to "veer into a legally parked car which set off a chain reaction involving two additional vehicles," police said.
The surveillance video, posted on YouTube, shows the suspect apparently arguing with the driver. A woman is seen standing next to the suspect, also engaging the driver in conversation. Once the bus begins moving, the suspect is seen putting his face closer and closer to the driver.
A dash camera shows the vehicle careening into a parked car.
