A truck driver’s failing brakes prompted him to jump out of the vehicle.

A 45-year-old truck driver from the Bronx was struck and killed by his own vehicle in Harlem on Wednesday evening.
Albert Cortez was traveling west on the Third Avenue Bridge near 128th Streetwhen he realized his box truck’s brakes had failed, according to police.
Investigators said Cortez jumped out of the truck to get out of the careening vehicle but got caught under the rear left wheel.
Cortez was taken to Harlem Hospital; he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
