Tufts to students: Keep your clothes on

Tufts University president, Lawrence S. Bacow, has put an end to the college’s annual Naked Quad Run; university officials are exploring possible sanctions if the event continues.

“Even if I did not act now, NQR would end someday. The only question is whether a student has to die first,” Bacow wrote in an op-ed in yesterday’s student paper.

The run takes place in December to mark the end of the fall semester. Students say it’s a release from the stress of classes.

Bacow said officials considered canceling the run after 2002 when two students “nearly died” from alcohol poisoning. Tufts then began to manage the event.

However, concerns over slick roads, drunk students and indecent assaults grew. Twelve students were taken to the hospital after last year’s run, Bacow wrote.

“It’s very integral to the Tufts experience,” said sophomore Jordan Sisel.
