Two State Troopers help deliver baby on side of Cambridge road

Two state troopers helped deliver a baby girl on the side of the road when a couple was trapped in traffic on the way to the hospital Monday morning.

An expectant father driving his pregnant wife to Mount Auburn Hospital to give birth became frantic when Route 2 backed up with heavy traffic.

The soon-to-be-dad called police, and officers told the man to pull over on the side of the highway.

Police were sent to the scene and located the couple’s silver Volkswagen Passat at the intersection of Huron and Concord avenues.

While the father coached his wife, Troopers Frank Parker and John Arone helped deliver the baby girl, who was born around 8 a.m.

An ambulance arrived shortly after and transported the couple and their new baby to Mount Auburn, according to police reports.

State Police are not releasing the couple’s name at this time.
