Two teens drown in Bronx River

A 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl drowned yesterday after going with a group of friends to the Bronx River to escape the sweltering heat.

Crystal Reyes went into the river around 3 p.m. by a waterfall near the Bronx Zoo. She was in distress when David Luccioni jumped in after her. Rescue workers pulled them from the water but it was too late. The restricted spot was fenced off but still popular with kids looking for a place to swim.
