Two Trenton police officers have undergone surgery today after a suspect shot both of them while they were on a domestic violence investigation in the city's East Ward section.

The officers have been identified as Jim Letts, 45, and Edgar Rios, 53, both of Hamilton. Letts is a 15-year veteran of Trenton Police while Rios has been with the department for more than 30 years.

The suspect, identified by NJ.com as Eric McNeil, 23, was killed in the shoot-out.

Rios and Letts, both detectives, were following up on a domestic incident this morning. They arrived at a home on Hobart Avenue around 8:43 a.m. today, reports said. They were surprised by the suspect, who was leaving the home. The victim in the incident said "That's him" to the officers. Then the suspect opened fire.

The two detectives were wounded during the gunfire.

This comes two days after Philadelphia police officer Edward Davies was shot in the abdomen after a traffic stop turned ugly. Davies remains in critical condition after multiple surgeries.
