The unemployment rate in Massachusetts in January dropped to below 7 percent, according to data released by the state on Thursday.
The January jobless rate was 6.8 percent, which is 0.3 percent below the revised unemployment figure for December, according to the state Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The figure is also down 0.1 percent from January 2013.
Also on Thursday, the office said that the state added 55,200 jobs in 2013. That represents the largest number of jobs created in a December to December period since 2000, the state said.
