UPDATE: Cops investigating cause of Dudley Square bus crash

The driver of the bus MBTA bus crash that sent 15 people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Monday morning has as operated on Route 28 since at least 2010, according to MBTA Spokesman Joe Pesaturo.

“Her bus traveled by the movie production truck earlier in the morning without incident.

Since her hire in May 2007, she has never been in a ‘preventable’ accident (an accident in which a bus driver is deemed at fault),”Pesaturo said in an email.

As of Monday afternoon the 33-year-old driver, whose name was not released, has not been cited or charged in connection with the accident, Pesaturo said.

The bus rammed into the back of a film production trailer in Dudley Square at the intersection of Dudley and Warren streets, in front of Roxbury District Court around 9:30 a.m.

Superintendent-in-Chief Joseph F. O’Connor said police are still trying to determine the cause of the accident.

“We’re looking at a number of things,” O’Connor said. “First we are looking if any medical condition may have contributed to the crash. We are also checking mechanical issues to see if any existed on the bus, and looking to see if there was anything else in the roadway that may have contributed to the operator of the bus striking the trailer.”

The driver was among the 15 people taken to the hospital with what officials described as “minor injuries.” Most of the injuries were head, neck and back injuries, O’Connor said. There was “extensive damage” to the bus, he said.

It is unclear at this time how many people in total were on the bus.

According to reports, the trailer was in Roxbury for a Sandra Bullock movie, “The Heat,” which has been shooting scenes in Boston recently. O’Connor said it does not appear that anyone in the production was injured in the crash.

This is the second motor vehicle accident that has involved Bullock while in the Boston area. In 2008, while driving in Gloucester with her then-husband Jesse James, she was struck by a woman in a station wagon.

The driver,Lucille P. Gatchell, reportedly jumped lanes before hitting Bullock’s rented SUV, and was arrested for drunk driving. Bullock was in the area filming scenes for her romantic comedy, “The Proposal.”

Police hope more details will come to light after they view the footage from the bus’s camera.

“That will be helpful to our investigation. We haven’t viewed it yet,” O’Connor said.
