A Connecticut woman who was struck by lightning at an Ipswich beach Saturday has died after suffering cardiac arrest and critical burns, police said Monday.

Marguerite Tomany, age 61, of North Grosvenor Dale was one of two women struck Saturday afternoon while swimming at Crane Beach. The other, a Concord woman who was not identified, remains in critical condition with serious burns. The women were suffering from cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived, though their heartbeats were restored after 20 minutes.

Both were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The National Weather Service reported a microburst in Ipswich around the time of the lighting strike.
