The South Philly Food Co-op will hold its first South Philly Garden Tour Saturday September 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
20 gardens, from backyard plots to community parks, will be included in the five-mile self-guided walk. Visitors are invited to view as many as they wish.
Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. at Urban Jungle, 1526 E. Passyunk Avenue, where participants can pick up a tour map.
Local businesses will provide free refreshments. Attendees are invited to Cantina Los Caballitos at E. Passyunk Ave and Morris Street for an afterparty from 3 to 5 p.m. featuring 20% off all food and drinks.
Tickets, $20 in advance and $25 the day of, can be bought at Urban Jungle, Grindcore House, 1515 S. 4th Street and Ultimo Coffee Bar, 1900 S. 15th Street. They can also be purchased online.
All proceeds go to the South Philly Food Co-op, which is attempting to open a community-owned grocery store that will sell fairly-priced, locally-sourced foods.
