Seven down. Three to go.

State police on Wednesday arrested two additional men on the state’s list of the most wanted sex offenders.

State police had released the most wanted list on Monday. As of Wednesday, seven of the men on the list – Robert Smith, George Smith, Alan Howard, Roberto Jimenez, Lennell York, Victor Quinones and Placido Valdez, Jr. – had been captured.

Robert Smith, 53, was arrested in Roxbury after an investigation, state police said.

Also Wednesday, state police received information that led them to find out George Smith was on a bus in New Jersey. State police there stopped the bus and arrested Smith.

Howard was arrested in East Boston Tuesday afternoon. Jimenez was also arrested on Tuesday afternoon in Holyoke.

York, 42, was arrested on Tuesday morning after police received a tip that he was at a home in Fitchburg. York was arrested after police found him hiding in the basement. He was wanted for failing to register as a sex offender. In 1999, York was convicted of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

Valdez, 34, who was convicted in 2000 of rape of a child and was wanted for failing to register as a sex offender, was arrested without incident in Beverly on Monday after police received a tip.

Police on Monday also received a tip that Quinones, 48, was hiding at a home in Taunton. He was arrested after he tried to flee and then hide under a porch. Quinones was also wanted for failing to register as a sex offender. Police said that in 1998 he attacked a woman and child with a knife and then in 2004 was convicted of assault with attempt to rape in Rhode Island.

Anyone with information on the location of the remaining most wanted sex offenders can call 508-820-2121.
