A boy who fell down a manhole in Brooklyn on his way to school Tuesday morning was rescued by a Verizon FIOS crew, authorities said.
The 10-year-old boy was crossing the street near 13th Avenue and 49th Street in Borough Park when he tumbled down the 20-foot utility hole about 8:40 a.m., police and fire officials said.
The Verizon workers used a ladder to help the boy from the hole before the fire department arrived, officials said.
The boy climbed up the ladder himself and was taken to Lutheran Hospital with bruising to his right leg.
Police said a new cover has been put on the manhole.
