VIDEO: North Philly carjacker drags victim while stealing his vehicle

Police have released shocking surveillance footage that shows a suspect dragging a man several feet while stealing his car in North Philadelphia.

The attack happened at 10:15 a.m. on Monday as the 61-year-old victim was getting gas from a Lukoil station at 3130 W. Hunting Park Avenue. An unknown man can be seen on tape pulling up in a late-1980s Oldsmobile station wagon, which was later determined to have been reported stolen earlier that day.

The suspect waits in the cashier booth line behind the victim, then suddenly jumps into the drivers seat of his car. The victim reached inside the car in an attempt to stop the man from fleeing with his vehicle and was dragged several feet. He did not suffer serious injuries. Police said the stolen car was recovered several blocks away from the gas station.

The suspect is described as a five-foot-nine black male between 30 and 40 years of age with a goatee. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt and a gray baseball cap.
