VIDEO: Suspects sought in Upper East Side jewelry store robbery

Two hammer-wielding robbers were caught on video as they robbed an Upper East Side jewelry store Sunday.

One suspect rang the doorbell at Travers Fine Jewelry at 962 Madison Ave. about 4:30 p.m., police said. After he was let in, he held the door open for his friend. Both men waved hammers and shouted, “Don’t move!”

The second suspect then proceeded to remove jewelry from a case worth about $15,000, police said. The first suspect is seen on the video struggling with an employee while his accomplice swipes the jewels.

Several employees chased the thieves out of the store. No injuries were reported.

One suspect is described as about 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds, wearing a black jacket and ski cap. The second suspect is described as about 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
