Wanted: Competitive nightlife professionals

Any weekend warrior can hit a home run in their local beer league, but simultaneously displaying charisma and skill is something else entirely.

Those are the qualities Social Boston Sports are looking for in Boston’s first-ever “Ultimate Social Athlete” competition. The founders of the company that organizes coed sports leagues emphasizing fun over competition are searching for the Hub’s best barroom athletes.
Social Boston Sports has grown from 50 friends and one league in 2007 to more than 7,000 members. The company organizes 13 sport leagues and numerous weekend adventure trips, bar nights and sports outings.

Now they are upping the ante with challenges such as karaoke, bowling and putting, combining nightlife with athletics.

“It’s probably the best way to meet people,” co-founder Justin Obey said. “The only thing you have to do is come out, have fun and play.”

The free, 7-week competition began on Sept. 20 and concludes with an obstacle course at the Boston Athletic Club. First, 40 qualifiers will compete on Facebook for a 10-second head start in the obstacle course.

“Hopefully it will continue as an annual event,” Obey said.
