Boston's newest radio station launched this afternoon on 101.7 FM, ending the nearly three decade reign of the city's beloved alternative station WFNX.
At about 4:30 p.m., The Harbor tweeted about its takeover.
"Hey Boston, check us out at 101.7FM! #WePlayAnything We wanna know: What do YOU want to hear?," the station tweeted from @1017theharbor.
A playlist on the station's website and its most recent songs were empty this afternoon. But a brief listen to the new station revealed a very diverse - and very different - playlist compared to its predecessor.
The station played "Hot Blooded" by Foreigner, followed by "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" by Georgia Satellites and "Good Vibrations" by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.
Reaction was mixed, but appeared to be leaning toward unhappy on Twitter.
