(Update) Woman, 92, dies in Queens fire

A 92-year-old woman died after a fire at her Queens apartment building Monday morning, officials said.

An elderly woman died after a fire at her Queens apartment building Monday morning, officials said.

Maria Tchinkel, 92, died after a blaze erupted around 10:25 a.m. on the first floor of the Ridgewood apartment building where she lived, police and fire officials said.

Tchinkel was rushed to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. Two others, one seriously hurt in the fire and another suffering from minor injuries, were taken to the same hospital, the fire department said.

Twelve units and some 60 firefighters responded to the one-alarm blaze, officials said.

The fire did not spread to the second floor of the building and was brought under control just after 11 a.m. The fire marshall will determine the cause of the blaze and the medical examiner will determine the cause of Tchinkel's death.
