Suspect charged for South Philadelphia 'grinch' robbery

Christmas decorations stolen from the front of a South Philadelphia home were recovered, police said.

After widely circulated surveillance footage led to tips from the public, a woman was arrested and charged with stealing Christmas decorations off a neighbor's house in South Philadelphia.

Marie Amari, 45, of the 1100 block of Cantrell Street, was arrested at her home on Saturday, Dec. 7 and charged with the theft of holiday decorations from a home just seven blocks away.


Surveillance video released by police showed a woman alleged to be Amari approaching a residence on the 1100 block of Fitzgerald Street and taking Christmas decorations off the front of the home on Nov. 26 around 2:15 a.m.

Police said they recovered the stolen Christmas decorations in question from Amari's home after the arrest.

The Philadelphia Police Department thanked members of the public for assisting in identifying the suspect in the video in their announcement of the arrest.
