A young woman is in critical condition after she was injured early Sunday morning in an apparent hit-and-run in the Garden Court section of West Philadelphia.

Police shortly before 3:15 a.m. responded to a radio call reporting a woman lying in the street at 48th Street and Osage Avenue.

Arriving officers found a 23-year-old woman lying unconscious in the intersection.

She was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she was placed in critical condition with severe head injuries and broken bones consistent with an auto accident.

Investigators were on Sunday surveying the area for surveillance camera footage and possible witnesses.

The woman has not yet been identified, and police do not at this time have information on the vehicle they believe struck her.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call 911, or to submit an anonymous tip by dialing 215-686-TIPS (8477), texting PPD TIP (773847), emailing tips@phillypolice.com or by filling out this online form.
