The body of a woman was found laying near the Newbury Commuter Rail tracks Wednesday morning, MBTA officials said.

Transit Police said officers received a call around 9:55 a.m. to respond to a "motionless body laying near the track area."

Upon arrival, responders discovered the lifeless body of a woman laying near the track bed near the Hay Street grade crossing. Police provided no identity or description of the victim, except to say that she appeared to have suffered trauma about her body.

Investigators do not suspect foul play at this time.

"Preliminary information may suggest the female was struck by a commuter rail train while possibly trespassing on or near the right of way," Transit Police wrote on their blog.

The Essex County District Attorney's office is investigating the incident.
