Woman killed by SUV while crossing Manhattan street

An SUV struck and killed a Manhattan woman early Thursday morning as she walked near the Cooper Square intersection.

A woman died on Thursday morning after an SUV struck her while crossing downtown Manhattan street near Cooper Square.

Police said that Lisa Julian, 47, was walking across Astor Place around 6:20 a.m. when she was hit by a white Ford Explorer headed south on Cooper Square.

The driver, who police identified as a 58-year-old man, stayed at the scene as police and emergency workers responded to the call.

EMS took Julian to Beth Israel Hospital, where workers pronounced her dead.

Police consider the investigation ongoing.
