An apparently impatient Rockland woman allegedly tried to hold up two banks in Cambridge on Tuesday, but fled before being handed any money.

Police said the 35-year-old woman didn’t use a weapon, but passed a note to the tellers and fled before she got the cash.

She was stopped when police recognized her in photos from her first attempted robbery at about 1:30 p.m. at a Massachusetts Avenue Bank, police said.

She tried to rob a second bank on Alewife Brook Parkway at about 3 p.m., police said.

Jessica Whalen was charged with two counts of attempt to commit a crime.

“This arrest is the result of good police work,” said Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas. “Our officers and detectives responded quickly, worked together to apprehend the suspect, and were able to connect the two events and arrest the person responsible for both robberies.”
