WTF? MTA to change FML signs

The subway system might make you curse, but the folks at NYC Transit have a clean mouth.

NYC Transit is rearranging the letters for the F, M and L trains at 14th Street, after transit workers unwittingly left a vulgar message by replacing the V with an M as part of service changes that start June 27th.

“FML” is texting-shorthand for F— My Life. As in: “Stuck on L train for 45 min FML.”

“We’ve been educated as to what it means to certain people who use the Internet,” said Transit spokeswoman Deirdre Parker. “We didn’t realize it’s an acronym for a curse so we’re going to move the L so it will be underneath the F and M.”

“I think it’s hilarious,” said straphanger Johan Reyes, 33. “I think they should just leave it up.”

“If you’re under 30 and you read the Internet, you know what it means. Or if you’re over 30. This is New York,” said Katherine Elsasser, 26, the festival director of Internet Week NYC. “I’m surprised that word trickled up.”

Management became aware of the goof-up over the weekend after reading blogs, said Parker, and is changing the signs “as soon as possible.”
