A yacht 17 miles out to sea from Sandy Hook, New Jersey exploded Monday afternoon, causing 21 people to jump into the Atlantic Ocean to save themselves.

The explosion happened at 4:20 p.m.

All the passengers were accounted for, but at least nine people have been injured, some of them seriously burned, according to the Star Ledger. It is unclear what caused the boat, named the Blind Date, to explode.

But the U.S. Coast Guard said they now think the call reporting the explosion may be a hoax, since they cannot find any debris from the boat or survivors in life rafts.
