A young student in the Perkiomen Valley School District reportedly has been diagnosed with a meningococcal infection.

The student attends third grade at Skippack Elementary School in Collegeville, Montgomery County, NBC10 reported. School officials learned of the diagnosis Tuesday and informed parents by email.

School officials are said to be working to identify any students who may have had close contact with the infected student, such as sharing food or beverages.

News of the third grader's infection comes two days after a Drexel University sophomore was found dead in her off-campus apartment from a suspected case of meningitis.
