The office of District Attorney Seth Williams announced that they have charged three female teenagers as adults for allegedly attacking three female Temple students on Friday, March 21.
Najee Bilaal, 16, Zaria Estes, 15, and Kanesha Gainey, 15, are all charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy, possession of an instrument of a crime, terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, prosecutors said.
Estes is allegedly the suspect who swung a brick into the face of a 19-year-old Temple student on Friday March 21, confirmed the D.A.'s communications director Tasha Jamerson. The victim suffered facial injuries, several dislocated teeth and required oral surgery.
Bail for Estes and Bilaal was set at $100,000 each. Bail for Gainey was set at $75,000, prosecutors said.
All three have a court hearing scheduled April 10.
Police were questioning five teenagers on Tuesday about the three attacks that happened March 21 on 17th Street near Temple University.
At this time only three suspects have been charged and the status of the other two teenagers has not been announced, police and prosecutors both said.
Several suspects turned themselves over to police custody after surveillance footage of the group was released to local media, Capt. Frank Banford of Central Detectives Division said Tuesday.
This group of teenagers is believed to be responsible for three assaults — the alleged brick attack at 17th and West Norris streets, the alleged attack on a female Temple student at 17th Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue who was punched in the face, and the alleged attack on a third female Temple student, at 17th and Willington streets, who was also punched in the face.
Banford also said detectives found a witness who saw the girls running down Willington Street, and who yelled to the witness, “You wanna get in on the flash mob?” as they passed, according to Banford, just moments prior to the brick attack incident.
