Local’s film a labour of love

At just 24, a Calgary woman will watch the film she produced hit the screen on Saturday at the Calgary International Film Festival.

Roger’s Pass is the first full-feature film produced by Sandralynn Trent, and she hopes it propels her career after being featured at the CIFF on Saturday at 12:15 p.m.

“It’s so exciting to be a part of this but I couldn’t have done it without he cast, the crew and of course the writer and director,” Trent said of filmmaker Colin Askey.

The film is up for a couple of awards, including Best Feature Film at the Oaxaca International Independent Film and Audio Festival in November.

Trent said the film is a labour of love, especially since those involved couldn’t secure funding.

They managed to raise $10,000 to make the film, a fictional story about Askey’s father, who died of cancer.

“This is really special to everyone involved,” she said.

Askey, from Calgary but living in Toronto, will be in attendance Saturday.

“It’s nerve-wracking but really exciting, too,” he said.
