Locals line up to earn trip into Dragons’ Den

Jason Mielke stood in line for more than four hours just to have a shot at slaying a dragon.

Producer’s of CBC’s hit show, Dragons’ Den, are in Edmonton holding auditions for aspiring entrepreneurs with million-dollar ideas but little cash.

Mielke was waiting for his turn to pitch his idea of a television show he created called American Heroes.

“It’s a show that helps charities across America,” said the Edmontonian entrepreneur. “We did a pilot project in Regina and we raised over $1 million and brought over 100 people together to build seven buildings for a needy charity.”

Mielke was hoping to strike a deal with one of the dragons, but first he would have to get through the show’s producers.

“Edmonton has yet to fail us,” said producer Molly Duignan. “We’ve been here every year and we’ve had to extend our auditions to two days. We’re hoping that even after six years, there are tonnes of innovations left in this country.”

If you missed the open auditions yesterday, there’s still a chance to present your idea today between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. at CBC Edmonton in the City Centre Mall.
