Logging truck driver acquitted

A logging truck driver whose cargo fell off his truck, killing a woman and her daughter, has been acquitted of dangerous driving in B.C. Supreme Court.

Perry Pelletier was rounding a curve along the Upper Levels Highway on the North Shore in November 2004 when 19 cedar logs rolled off his truck onto oncoming traffic. Farida Manji, 53, and Shaireen Manji, 26, were killed. Four other people were injured.

The judge in the case said there was no evidence Pelletier was speeding while taking the turn and found him not guilty.
