It’s not as scary as the infamous glass deck, but the CN Tower’s new glass floor elevator is enough to spook some riders.
“I’ll just hold on to you,” 10-year-old Darby Dowle told her friend Cassie Rolph, clutching her arm as they waited yesterday to board the elevator with their fifth-grade class.
The floor isn’t entirely made of glass — that would be impossible because of the wiring and mechanics involved, according to tower staff. Instead, two panels, each about 1 metre long and 30 centimetres across, give visitors a plunging view of the 346-metre elevator shaft, enough to rattle anyone with the slightest case of acrophobia.
