Be careful of the lies you tell in the name of sexual conquest: There’s a new rape in town, and it’s surprisingly consensual.
A Jerusalem court has set an international precedent by convicting a Palestinian man of “rape by deception,” the Telegraph reports, after he allegedly seduced an Israeli Jew — by introducing himself as “Daniel,” therefore leading his victim to assume his Jewish identity.
Sabbar Kashur, an Arab, allegedly approached the unnamed Jewish woman and struck up a conversation. Soon after, the pair engaged in an act of consensual sex in an empty office building.
“If she hadn’t thought the accused was a Jewish bachelor interested in a serious romantic relationship, she would not have cooperated,” Judge Tzvi Segal concluded.
And if most women knew the truth behind the average male Lothario, argues Kashur’s lawyer, Adnan Aladdin, then “many men would find themselves in jail.”
Kashur was sentenced to 18 months in prison. Aladdin said he’d “rather not comment” on questions of racial discrimination.
