Looking for good people

Olympic organizers are looking for 4,500 dancers, athletes and performers to take part in the spectacle of the 2010 opening and closing ceremonies.

Wendy Tynan was 10 when she took part in the opening ceremonies at the 1988 Calgary Games.

“The true memories are in my heart,” said Tynan, who displayed her 1988 uniform, a sequined cornflower blue outfit complete with legwarmers and silver high-tops.

“It is an amazing experience and I would encourage anyone with the time, the energy and the talent to take part in the ceremonies … it will be a wonderful experience that will stay with you always,” she added.

David Atkins, the executive producer of the ceremonies, said he is looking for people with a wide range of abilities — dancers, actors, musicians and athletes, as well as people with special skills and enthusiasm.

“There are three sorts of people in the world: Those that make things happen, those that watch what happen and those who wonder what happens. Today is the chance to join that first group.”

Auditions will take place in May and June and rehearsals will begin in November. Applicants must be 17 or older as of May 1.

VANOC CEO John Furlong said the ceremonies will be memorable.
