‘Love rock’ to hit Edmonton

Expect a positive vibe and high-energy performance at the upcoming show by rising Canadian band, Scatterheart.

During their set at On The Rocks on 11730 Jasper Ave. this Sunday, Scatterheart will fit a huge theatrical rock show into the club.

Guitarist and vocalist Doug Fury attributes the theatrical performance to something along the lines of Queen or David Bowie. He called it “love rock,” something that isn’t your typical modern rock.

“Love rock is about positive, uplifting vibes,” Fury said. “Not wimpy or mushy love, but an empowering type of rock.”

Coming off the success of their first full-length LP, The Masterplan, Scatterheart will take their show on the road, with nine stops in only two weeks.

But the tour stays mostly in Alberta, not venturing past Saskatchewan. For Fury, not heading to Eastern Canada was an easy choice.

“We are focusing on Western Canada right now, because we are feeling it grow here and we want to stoke that fire,” he said.

“With Vancouver and Western Canada, we are completely independent with the budget. With the reality of touring, Western Canada just makes the most sense right now.”

But the rest of Canada won’t have to wait long to get a taste of what Scatterheart has to offer.

Fury explained that tours out east are planned for the summer, as well as a return to Asia, where they have had dazzling shows in the past.

Once they return, a new album will be in the works starting in early fall.
