A Lowell man was sentenced to up to 16 years in prison Monday after he admitted that he shook his 9-week-old son to death last year.

Christopher Berry, 24, pleaded guilty Monday to manslaughter in connection with his son, William Berry’s, 2013 death. The child died May 17, 2013 after police responded to Berry’s home to find the boy in distress, with blood coming from his mouth and labored breathing.

Berry first claimed he found his son limp and unresponsive when he attempted to wake him. He later told police he was “stressed out” because the child would not stop crying. He said he shook William for 30 seconds before the child went limp, prosecutors said.
