Macaulay Culkin delivers odd Lou Reed tribute with Pizza Underground

Yes, Macaulay Culkin! This is what we like to see! Yes, Macaulay Culkin! This is what we like to see!Whenever you see that “Macaulay Culkin” is trending on a search engine or your social media feed, it’s a little scary, what with gossip columnists constantly quoting sources who are apparently close to the “Home Alone” star, saying that he’s got a massive drug problem and is going to die any day now. Though, we should point out that what we’re about to report doesn’t really dispel any notion of a massive drug problem, but at least he appears to be using these drugs productively: to form a Velvet Underground cover band and sing about pizza.

His latest project, which is so awesomely absurd that we’d love it even if it didn’t involve him, is called the Pizza Underground, and they dress like the Velvet Underground, and they play songs that sound a lot like existent Velvet Underground songs (as well as Lou Reed songs and a Nico song thrown in for good measure), but with all of the words changed so that the songs are all about pizza.

“Pizza” is sung to the chorus melody of “Sweet Jane,” “Papa John Says” is sung to the tune of “Stephanie Says” and “I’m Beginning to Eat the Slice,” is (pretty awesomely/obviously) sung to the tune of “I’m Beginning to See the Light.”

Lou Reed would definitely be proud.

Here’s a sampling of some of our favorite lyrics…

“Famous Ray’s never once gave it away”

“Here she comes, you’d better hide your slice”

“Here we go again, eatin’ ‘za again”

“Jack, he eats the cheese, Jane, she eats the ‘zone”

“I don’t do too much toppings these days”
