Salt & Straw, the newest addition to the New York ice cream scene, has two pop-up locations open Thursday and Friday offering their signature, mouth-watering flavors perfect for a beautiful spring day.

The Oregon-based ice cream brand is hosting some pop-ups this week to celebrate the opening of their first two Manhattan locations in the West Village and Upper West Side this summer, offering a taste of the West Coast that you won’t want to miss!

Stop by Brooklyn Brewery, 79 North 11 St. in Brooklyn, today, April 25, between 5-7 p.m. to taste their Passionfruit Yuzu Mochi Donuts and Whey Curd flavored ice cream floats. This flavor, which might be the cause of a few raised eyebrows, is a part of their Upcycled Food Series and aligns with their culinary-forward approach to the ice cream industry.

The pop-up event is also in partnership with Spare Foods Co., a culinary business looking to redistribute food waste and create food-security. They will also be featuring their Spare Tonic Passion Fruit and Yuzu at the pop-up.

If you’re looking for an afternoon “pick-me-up,” on Friday, April 26, between 1-3 p.m., New Yorkers can head to the ice cream makers future brick-and-mortar establishment in the West Village (540 Hudson St.) to grab a bite of Salt & Straw’s most iconic flavors.

Flavors you’ve never seen before

Chef and co-founder Tyler Malek will be there to serve New Yorkers some of their delicious ice cream scoops, before the grand opening later this year. Classic scoops like their Double Fold Vanilla, Honey Lavender, and intriguing Pear & Blue Cheese flavors might be on the menu this Friday.

The pop-up is also excited to be debuting the newest addition to their menu, a Pistachio & Ricotta Cannoli flavor which will be sold for $1 with profits going to the Hot Bread Kitchen nonprofit— a group working to “create economic opportunity for women and gender-expansive people.”

The Portland based brand was created in 2011 by Malek and his cousin Kim. They have been a local institution in the Pacific Northwest and have achieved lots of acclaim and attention from their unconventional ingredients like Turkey Stuffing & Cranberry Sauce and Chocolate Potato Salad.

Last summer, the ice cream shop made its first appearance in NYC with a sold-out pop-up shop. Salt & Straw collaborated with local chefs to create limited-time flavors for New Yorkers.

With a significant following here in the city, the ice cream shop is excited to open its doors to New Yorkers with their Manhattan locations and give them the first scoop with their pop-up shops this week.
