You know we love a bizarre arrest story, so here’s one that emerged last week from Las Vegas. Samaki Walker, a former NBA lottery pick who starred at Louisville, was pulled over by police in a routine traffic stop. Then, it gets fun.
According to police, Walker attempted to eat marijuana.
Seriously? Yes. The arresting officers said Walker had about 10 grams of dope on him, along with some prescription drugs and eight bottles of liquid steroids. There was no detailed description of what happened when Walker tried to devour the buds.
But wouldn’t you love to see a time lapse video of the next few hours of Walker in a jail cell, just in case he got high. That sounds like something straight out of, “Super Troopers II,” which is due out later this year.
Walker, for the record, was selected four spots ahead of Kobe Bryant in the 1996 NBA draft.
Twitter is dangerous
We recently alerted you to the budding romance of tennis star Caroline Wozniacki and golfer Rory McIlroy. Well, there’s been a development — sort of.
The two have been joking pretty publicly on Twitter. She asks if he needs a tennis coach; he “might know someone” who could help — and I found that odd since … if they were really dating, why not text or call one another, instead of putting it out there for the thousands of people who follow them via social media? (She has 165,000 followers; he has 563,000.)
But here’s where it gets interesting. Some joker noticed the back and forth and decided to include McIlroy’s ex-girlfriend (also on Twitter, of course) in the conversation, saying she wouldn’t be happy with the flirting.
Her response? “Bit late for that …”
Ain’t no party like an SEC party ’cause …
The Princeton Review put out its annual list of the nation’s “Top 20 Party Schools.” While I haven’t picked up a copy of the magazine to break down the criteria, a few things stand out (get out your pad and pen, high schoolers):
SEC rules. Not only are they superior at football, but five of the top 20 party schools in the country are in the Southeastern Conference (Georgia 2, Ole Miss 3, Florida 9, LSU 13, South Carolina 20).
What does the Princeton Review have against the West Coast? Other than UC-Santa Barbara and Arizona State, it’s as if they don’t party west of the Mississippi.
And no love for the Northeast?
Only Syracuse (12) and Vermont (19) made the list. And I’m not counting Penn State as the Northeast, since it’s closer to Pittsburgh than Philly.
